Immersive temporary Installation

Home Away from Home, a site-specific immersive installation project, was created as part of the Brampton Arts organization's 2025 Artist-in-Residence program. This project invites you to step into it, feel it, and bring your own stories, making it a meaningful experience for everyone involved. Mediums- Cyanotype, Natural dyes, Painting, photographs. Home away from Home comes from a very personal place. As immigrants, many of us carry more than just luggage when we arrive—we carry memories, traditions, and sometimes even silence about where we come from. Storytelling, in this sense, becomes our bridge, connecting us and highlighting the importance of sharing our experiences to foster understanding and empathy.
For immigrants and for the next generation, storytelling is not only about remembering—it is about continuity. It ensures that children and grandchildren understand the deeper reasons behind our journey, fostering a sense of purpose and connection that can inspire pride and a sense of belonging.
The project is designed to be self-based and participatory because each of us carries a home within us. The installation is only a frame—what truly matters are the experiences and voices people bring. By engaging with the materials and sharing reflections, everyone added their own layer to this collective “home.” To participate, approach the installation, share stories, or reflect on experiences- participants' involvement makes this project meaningful.
A small series of paintings and photographs is also part of this series, done during a five-month BAO artist residency.
